- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)church the party went on horse-back.
The home-coming procession consisted of as many as thirty all riding on horses. The wives always sat behind their husbands. Those attending the wedding very frequently raced on the way home. This procession gave great pleasure to the whole townland and was the topic of conversation for weeks afterward.
The night of the wedding was always marked by the advent of the "straw-boys". These were not always the nearest neighbours as they sometimes came from a distance. They were always dressed in women's attire long skirts, all wore masks. The captain knocked at the door and asked admittance. He opened the door and went in followed by a gang of twenty-five or thirty, each of whom had a number.
Each of the straw-boys congratulated the newly married couple, then danced with the bride. The straw boys were then treated.- Bailitheoir
